The added flexibility to homeschooling is definitely one of the perks. You can schedule appointments during the day, have time together before activities in the evenings, travel at different times of the year, etc. Your day starts on your timeline. If you are early risers, you’ll likely want your school day to end early, too. Some school at night because of parent’s work or they’re simply night owls. The flexibility is endless really. Some of our best years were when we did 6 weeks on and 1 week off. We also had great success and made wonderful memories when we did 4 day weeks when they were younger. The 5th day was for field trips and catch up or errands. Doing block schedules in older grades is also a nice option. Some kids really learn more when they’re immersed in the topic or subject for a while. Some families prefer to have days off during the week and use their weekends to tackle some of their subjects. The flexibility to arrange your days goes beyond just the typical 8-4 school day. It really is something to be appreciated as a family unit.
